  Mangalore is a port city and the headquarters of Dakshina Kannada district in the coastal region of Karnataka State in India. Mangalore is the 8th cleanest city in India, literacy rate is very high, it is the third largest port.The city of Mangalore has much cultural and historical significance. It was the kingdom of several powerful dynasties such as the Rashtrakutas, Kadambas, Chalukyas, Hoysalas and Vijayanagar dynasties, as well as the Portuguese. The folk dance and art forms are a beautiful reflection of the culture, traditions and beliefs of the people of Mangalore.

  Piliyesa is a unique form of folk dance in the region fascinating the young and the old alike, which is performed during Marnemi (as Dussara is called in Tulu) and Krishna Janmashtami. Karadi Vesha (Bear Dance) is one more popular dance performed during Dasara in Mangalore.
